Steve Jobs Quote

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

MP4 is here, yay!

I wanted something less restrictive than IPods, so yesterday I bought an MP4 player. Don’t get me wrong, I love Apple and what its doing, but not being able to copy my music for X quantity of times once I got it from Itunes Store is making me crazy, and the high cost of the IPods here at Argentina (almost $300 USD for an IPod Shuffle!!!) had a little bit to do with it too.

A regular MP3 player with no screen and with 128MB is about $180.00USD here at Argentina, and this baby is worth only $155.00USD! this are some of the features:

  • Incredible small.
  • Too light! I had an IPod video in my hands and you can tell the difference.
  • 1.5 Inch LCD (65K colors).
  • MP3 Player
  • Video Player (AMV format - any know format like AVI or MPEG can be converted to AMV and for what I seen until now, a 44MB file ends up into a 4MB AMV file!).
  • Voice recorder (excellent mic!)
  • Photo slideshow and viewer.
  • Video view
  • FM Radio!
  • Pen Drive! I can go with my files everywhere!
  • Ebook reader! (of course, I won’t use this one! I love real books!)
  • 1GB just for me!

And it’s worth only $155.00 USD!!! I still can believe it! I didn’t want to expend very much on me, so this baby is what I need! So far, I’m using just 17% of my space:

  • 22 MP3
  • Two Family Guy episodes
  • One Futurama episodes
  • Four chapters of Stephen Covey Audio Book
  • Two Stanford University Podcasts (seminars) of 1:45 hs minutes each!

That’s incredible! I never loved a gadget so much like this one! Yes, isn’t that cute like an IPod, but is less expensive and it’s a lot more than just an IPod Shuffle (no screen, remember?) or an IPod nano (screen, but without video at least you put some linux into it, which it’s never recommended).

Now, you must be wondering what is the name of this awesome MP3-MP4 player don’t you? Well, to be honest, I will be feeling a lot better if you go to this is an awesome site (everyone should visit this one): anythingbutipod.com and make your choice!
I’m sure you are going to find a lot of other better MP3-MP4 players than mine there! I know I have!

Cheers
Javier Cabrera

P.S: I won’t say what brand it is because last time I did such a thing a lot of people asked me about specifications, drivers, support, etc. Even when I said I won’t be talking about a product again, so, in order to avoid those messages, I won’t say anything this time! But I’m sure you are going able to find better players than mine (I saw one in anythingbutipod.com for less than $170 USD with 60GB!). Enjoy!

MacBook Pro + Semminar = Perry Marshall

This is nuts! Perry Marshall is giving away MacBooks Pro for assisting his AdWords seminar! he has made the most cool move I ever heard in this business! Perry’s AdWords seminar is at the same price than a MacBook Pro from Apple, so he has came with this awesome promotional plan! isn’t that great?

This is what I call “smart marketing” at its best. He not only will ensure the public on his audience are the right one (capable of buying a $1999 MacBook Pro if they want) for his business, but he is also having a great load of marketing just for the coolness of the idea!

Obviously he doesn’t win anything from this deal… for the common eyes. If you give it a thought, he will get a great audience (which is going to be crazy by just having a new laptop) and an amazing amount of press if the message spread out enough. The MacBook Pro is sold at the same price than the seminar, remember that. I love his approach! who doesn’t mind to attend to a seminar and get a MacBook Pro for the same price? Isn’t a free laptop, is free knowledgement!

MacOS 10.4.5 Hacked

So far so good for the opinions like “we aren’t like those big companies, we don’t make money; we want to share all information”. Yeah, right. Maxxuss has released a patch at [EDITED: we can’t show you this guys!] to kick MacOS 10.4.5 Intel protection ars. Now you can install the beautiful MacOSX in any compatible hardware. Of course, there are a couple of fixes and not all will be working, but it is an “advance”.

He is planning to release a DVD (I guess, he is planning to sell it) with the pach and other stuff inside (ATI SSE2 patches, and the Maxxuss Tuning package) in a bit, so stay tuned. I don’t see the patch on the page, but I’m sleepy and maybe it is just me ;)

Discussions, comments a side; maxxuss, if you did it; that’s impressive man. Really impressive!

NOTE: William has made a pretty good points on his comment, about how I rushed my conclusions (which, I think is true in part, but I argue different below) and he gives a very argument about the patch. Scroll down and read it!

OSx86 Project

I really don’t support this kind of actions because if you ask me, hackers are like Trolls with a little bit more of power. Not all of them, but some for sure. OSX86 Project is a site where people discuss, between other things, how to install Mac OS 10.4.4 for Intel in any generic x86 computer. A couple of days ago, Maxxuss said he installed indeed, Mac OS 10.4.4 in a x86 computer. Yep, you read it right, he reached that goal. Apple charged against OSx86 Project and forced them to close their forums.
I really hate when people say things like this in order to cover their own responsibility:

You aren’t allowed to use this guide to install OSX on your PC if you are not an Apple developer! This guide only shows you that it is possible and tells you something about partitioning! So: Buy an Apple from apple.com if you want to run osx!

Please. Come one, we all know you guys are posting this guide to harm the other party (in this case, Apple). The solution? Steve, call your lawyers…

In fact, not just Steve. If you are an Apple developer, or work in a Apple retail store, or you are an Apple provider, or distributor, or technician, or customer support, or if you even just open the door at Apple Inc, call your lawyer. This kind of act can bring a company down X points in the stock market and get 100 people fired. Hacking an OS isn’t that fun you know, Apple isn’t Microsoft.
