Passage: YOU need to play it

Passage is a game that only lasts for five minutes and it’s a wonderful five minutes experience. That’s all I would need to say. The game was made for the Montreal International Game Summit by Jason Rohrer with the constraints of being of a maximum of 256 x 256 pixels and being fully playable in around five minutes.
The graphics are excellent, and it breaks down every wall between you and the game.

Passage, it may change your life!

Five minutes of play that can change your life forever, giving you new perspectives on your own existence. Can’t say any more, you need to pay it to understand what I’m talking about; there is no excuse for not trying it.

Tim and I about Kindle

Javier Cabrera | http://twitter.com/doncabrera
it sucks, the general idea. They want to replace the very core of books. Books lovers love the smell, the portability, the price, how they look on their shelves, etc.

Tim Vaughan
Yup, all true
But that was probably true for vinyl records as well

Javier Cabrera | http://twitter.com/doncabrera
the core of books aren’t just the words or the content… but the book itself.
yup, maybe. Or you just maybe want to pick a fight. Do you want us to take this outside, punk?

Tim Vaughan
Seriously dude, I’d kick your asss
You know that
I know that

Javier Cabrera | http://twitter.com/doncabrera
hahahaha! yes you are actually right!

To all entrepreneurs out there

What I must do is all that concerns me, not what the people think. This rule, equally arduous in actual and intellectual life, may serve for the whole distinction between greatness and meanness. It is the harder, because you will always find those who think they know what is your duty better than you know it. It is easy in the world to live after the world’s opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great person is one who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude.

Just got my moleskine

This is really something, I love the small moleskine, it is one of the best notepads I actually ever got, thanks Lojadoarco.com! I will enjoy many mores. But I have to say something about it, something negative. Not to Loja do Arco, but to the Argentinean post office. They opened my package, they always does. They open every package to see if it’s something they will actually like to keep, and nobody on my country does nothing. They have stolen (and it’s reported) credit cards, gadgets, computers and even memory sticks, anything they can fit on their pocket, they actually do. Shame. Adults stealing and putting their freedom and job on the line just for a $100, $200 pesos gadget.

They opened my package, and of course, they sent me a letter saying the package came opened from Portugal, where Loja do Arco is located, and that’s an absolute lie. Loja do Arco made a really good tight package in order to prevent the custom/post office guys steal my Moleskine (we are talking about a Moleskine people! but even then, they will steal it, they tried!) so the argentinean post office went through my order, through my private mail. They wanted to see if the content of my package was of their interest…

23-02-07_141.jpg
Here is the package, it came wrapped on plastic by the argentinean post office, so I said “mmm interesting…”

Ar2.jpg
What’s that? it has been opened! omg!

Ar1.jpg
But it came with a letter from the argentinean post office attached…

What the post office letter said

Dear Client:
This package we just deliver to you it has been damaged by a third party, not by us. The package was received damaged from the sender’s country. We are aware that your mail is important to you and you need to get it in good conditions, for that, we have sealed your package in plastic, to preserve the original content.

Thank for your support and good will, Customer Care, bla bla bla, yada-yada-yada

What a nervs! this is really something stupid! a lot of my colleges and friends from Argentina had gotten the exact same letter, it’s printed like if they were doing it all the time! Even people who works as SEO or in the marketing industry here on my country have problems getting paycheks from Google or Yahoo, because at the post office they steal them and then exchange them (don’t ask me how) It’s obvious they do it, and everyone knows they are doing it. The whole country knows they are stealing packages and mail, and the government doesn’t do anything because of course, the post office belongs to them.

Thanks god Loja do Arco has an excellent service and they took a good care of my package, they wrap it really tight! the damn apes from the post office didn’t put their dirty claws on my Moleskine
Here’s what I got!

Myth: The Entrepreneur (Part 2)

Previously in the Part 1 of Myth: The Entrepreneur, I explained how being an Entrepreneur is no easy walk, you won’t find anything harder than being at your own out there, is a big, ugly scary world. Of yours it will be fun, but that’s only if you like the adventures. That’s what I’m about to talk now, even if it sounds stupid at first but it will show it value later, I promise… in the mean while… are you a knight?

No more Princess?

It’s sad, but it’s true, there are no more princess to save. There are two kind of human being, the one who likes the danger, and the one who doesn’t. If you are trying to become a business owner, or if you are just thinking about it, then you know it better than I. In the past, we heard stories about Knights and Adventurers who fought with giants and dragons in order to save Princess and earn their kingdom. Today, those are just stories, there are no more Dragons to kill, no more giants to fight and certanly, there are no more Princess to save!

What’s left? just life. You will find yourself working eight, ten hours a day, boring at your desk, looking out the window and seeing there a part of yourself dying… that if you are an adventurer. If you are a guy (or a gal!) who just want to live a quiet cool life, then having a job in a company is a dream, the smell of the fresh coffee, the group work at the office, the meetings, the parties and the promotion at the end of the year, that’s really something and I mean it. It’s really exiting!

But there are a few out there… who think “that’s ok! but… it isn’t for me. I’m here taking a place which I don’t fully enjoy, and what is worst, here can be someone who really enjoys a company-office work… but I want exitement, I want something totally different.”

Well my friend, you want to fight a battle. And I’m not talking about war, I’m talking about business.

There and Back Again…

After a lot of time I got back from a long, long, long period of “busyness”. Emaginacion got a lot of work in the past few months (from August!) and I was cluthered and literally burried in it. Thanksfully, we are making some changes in the house that you guys will notice right now with this blog (notice the little visual upgrade? ah! I knew it!)

Google search is one of them, from now on you will be able to search via Google on the ClearYourMind content, and the integration is great, so you can’t say I’m not making efforts for this blog! As I said before, “Content is King”, so we will go right into it!

Make meaning

One of the things I love from Guy Kawasaki is that he is truly sincere. A couple of months ago I worked on the new design of his blog (yep, that’s me) and I had a chance to exchange emails with him; and I found out something that is really weird on the world of “gurus”; simplicity.

People that are in the same (or similar) position that Guy is, always trend to make things more complicated than they really are; like for example, thinking they know it all on every subject, Guy isn’t like that. If he doesn’t know something he doesn’t have afraid to say “gosh, I don’t really know that. Maybe we can look it up”. We never spoke for a long period of time, we just exchanged e-mails and it was work related, but that was enough. It takes the same amount of time to know someone likes to make things complicated than to know someone just want things simpler.

I saw a video of one of Guy’s presentations and he said something that really hit me (hard) on the head. He said (as I remember) don’t make a business to make money, make a business to make meaning; that will lead you on the money track. If you make a business to make money, people will notice it and they won’t do business with you, but if instead, you focus on making meaning and FORGET the money issue, I can ensure you will find it at the end of the rainbow; it will be much more fun and you won’t believe you are working.

Can’t discuss that argument. That is what we are really aiming with Emaginacion. We want to bring “balance” to the force; if you know what I mean.

Another person I respect is Tom Peters. Even when they seem distant some how (Guy and Tom), for me they enter into the same category; motivate entrepreneur and business owners. While they stand on different islands of thought, they walk the same path. Tom says you need to start all over again, you need to re-imagine business, you need to know that Dell is about to crash and you won’t see it again in the next 50 years, the same thing will happen with your business, it won’t live forever, someday it will finish, it will end, all ends; so why we don’t think outside the box for a second? it’s amazing when you realise you can surprise yourself. As someone said, don’t be trapped by dogma.

Polyphasic Sleep

Text gracefully edited by Tom “Magic Hands” Lieber from Alltom.com

Ever heard about it? No? Well, let me briefly describe to you, in simple words, what it is:

Polyphasic sleep (also known as the Uberman sleep schedule and Dymaxion Sleep) is a sleep pattern specification intended to compress sleep time to 2-5 hours daily. This is achieved by spreading out sleep into short (around 20-45 minute) naps throughout the day. This allows for more waking hours with relatively high alertness.

Now why do you think I’m mentioning this? Oh yes, you guessed right: I’m about to become a Polyphasic Sleeper… again.

Being a mutant

Everyone knows I love my work and I love technology, and, everyone knows I like to work until the very end of the day, that’s a fact. So I want to have more hours per day so I can work not only on my clients project, but also, on my own projects. This guy over here says Polyphasic Sleep is just not possible for humans, and only mutants could do it. Well, I guess I’m a mutant, because I WENT POLYPHASIC FOR THREE ENTIRE MONTHS last year.

I love those “don’t be a workaholic-sleep 12 hours a day-don’t get a better job than mine-you simply can’t do it” guys devote their lives to say other people are liars. I just love them! Last year I worked from home, most of the year, so I tried Polyphasic sleep for three months and it worked. One of my very best friends, Tim, is from England, so we would chat every day and after a couple of hours, he always went to sleep at certain time. Why is that crazy? Well, because when he connected again, I was still on my messenger, I managed to sleep only 4.5 hours every day, and people started to think I was some kind of zombie or something. My friend Tim thought I was sleeping too little, but I always, during that time, felt incredible well.

Why now? you are crazy?

Well, not right now; but in a couple of months (maybe at the end of next month) I will be doing it again. This time, I hope I can do it forever. Of course, I’m going to record my whole experience on this blog for you, and I won’t be lying about it at all like some guys did out there… I did it in the past so polyphasic sleep isn’t new for me at all. It’s like an old friend of mine.

I can’t wait to get started, I can’t stay still when I think on those past days when I used to sleep only 4.5, 3 hours per day. I loved it, every moment, every minute, every second; when you know your side of the world is sleeping and you are working at the middle of the night in your “dungeon” as I like to call it, with a Coke in your hand, getting some CSS code right, or just working on some documents. It’s great.

Being the first on your block to see how the sun comes up the next morning, breathing the new day’s air… It is just amazing. It’s like being alone in the middle of the sea through the night you know, just you and your thoughts, no one else… and suddenly, after you see how the sky goes purple and the sun wakes up, you start seeing people at the streets, going to work, going to the doctor… You start seeing land at the horizon. It’s amazing, and I can’t describe it well enough. I’m not a poet, but believe me, I wish I could say something smart to describe how it feels.

It is dangerous?

I can’t answer this question. Some people say it is dangerous, others say it is not, so who really knows. I know about people who actually died from sleep deprivation, which I intend not to do. I managed to sleep 4.5, 3 hours a day successfully, and I’m still here, which means nothing. Maybe some people can’t do it, maybe others can, maybe it’s genetic, maybe you will die if you try, so I recommend you to NOT trying polyphasic sleep or sleep deprivation, I will just document my own experience on this blog, so don’t comment asking for advice (any of those comments will be deleted) to me, or to anyone about it. Don’t send me emails about it either, or they will go to the same trash can the comments asking for advice will go. Does this make my point clear?

I’m going to document everything, from how I feel doing it, and how my endless nights are, so wish me luck, and thanks for stopping by!

Added: Polyphasic sleep and Sleep Deprivation are two different things, take a look at google to find out more, but remember, don’t try it yourself.

Sleep deprivation is an overall lack of the necessary amount of sleep. A person can be deprived of sleep by their own body and mind, insomnia, or actively deprived by another individual. Sleep deprivation is sometimes used as an instrument of torture.

Different from Polyphasic sleep, see?
