Leisure Suit Larry: Land of the Lounge Lizards

Oh those days when we played this little DOS game for hours! If you never played a Leisure Suit Larry, then you didn’t have fun at all! Released by Sierra in 1987, the first part of the Leisure Suit Larry series was one of the first completely graphical adventure games with 16 color EGA graphics. It used the Adventure Game Interpreter (AGI) engine. It ran on DOS and the Apple II and was later ported to other platforms such as the Amiga, Atari ST, Apple IIGS and the TRS-80 Color Computer.

The best of the game was the graphical interface, until that day I never had saw an UI that cool! I think this game was one of the reasons why I got so into user interfaces. Once you really use one effectively, like if you had been using it your entire life, you will get that feeling of “darn, this is how it supposed to be; always!

Excellent GUI and graphics.

The first time I got this game was in several floppy disks (remember those ones?), if I don’t recall wrong, the game came distributed into six floppy disks you have to install one by one for like ten minutes (how fun was that!).
The game is the funniest game ever created by a man and it have to be enjoyed by all mankind. No, I’m not exaggerating, it’s that funny. It has the perfect amount of sex (without being pornographic), humor and fun. When I have children, and they are old enough, they are going to play this one over and over.

SO FUNNY: this was the “quit game” screen!

Larry Laffer is a geeky virgin at his 40 years old. It’s kind of dumb to talk with the ladies, but he always manage to get some through the end of the (until this day) seven game series of Leisure Suit Larry. In this adventure, Larry resolves to explore the sinister streets of Lost Wages (a parody of Las Vegas) in a desperate quest to lose his virginity and maybe even find true love (If the player fails to complete the first goal before “sunrise”, Larry commits suicide).

From Wikipedia
A bizarre, unfounded urban legend at the time was that the player’s computer would catch a computer virus if Larry had unprotected sex with one of the NPCs; In actuality, if Larry has sex in the game with a prostitute without using a condom, he contracts a particularly virulent sexually transmitted infection and dies within seconds. How bizarre is that uh!?

Jazz Music

If you played this game in your earlier youth as I did, there is a name you know and probably you already forgot: Al Lowe. This musician is giving away all the AMAZING jazz music from the Larry games, including the theme sheet (useful if you play an instrument). I love when someone does this! You NEED to download the Larry 7 Theme Song; it’s amazingly played and its in the same line of the Pink Panther theme song. Best jazz EVER. Thanks Al, we certainly appreciate it!

My favorite Advanturegame was Simon the sorcerer, I never played it to the end, though ;)

Hey fellow! I never played that one, I never liked the graphics so I guess I just passed it. You can find it as an abandonware now if you like, but I don’t recommend you to do it because it kills the illusion you had about the game.
When I saw Duke Nukem like 6 years later I was pretty disappointed about it because I had such a good time playing it before, and now… it was… well, let’s say nothing beats Call of Duty on my list, and playing Doom or Duke Nukem after a game like that, it’s just silly. You will kill the illusion!

My previous post refers to the second part: Simon the sorcerer 2. I never really played the first part and I have to disagree with you on the graphics: I like them ;)
