What we are doing right now

Hello good fellows!
This had been a crazy week trying to get more visitors and stuff, but I read Liz article about the top 10 ways to become a miserable blogger today and I just stop doing what I was doing, I immediately got paralyzed by a strong sense of “oh darn…man… I do two of those points Liz described…”.

Where I’m failing

Isn’t a secret this blog hasn’t the success I was hope for. Don’t get me wrong. I’m pretty happy with my visitors (something around 200 per day) but I know there are more people out there that will be willing to read my blog every day and they don’t know about it. You see, it’s all about exposure, there are some crappy blogs out there that aren’t worth it but people keep reading at them because they got exposure. If I can get Steve Jobs and Bill Gates wear a T-Shirt with my site address, I could explain my theory in a more graphical way; but saddly that isn’t going to happen. I’m failing on my PR + Marketing. That’s SO important for any site and I’m not making it right because I don’t have the proper time to invest on this blog.

So it’s all about time?

No, isn’t about time. I’m not going to lie to you, I’m not going to say “yes.. It’s because I don’t have the proper time to write…”. I don’t have the proper time to learn how to market this blog. That will requiere some serious time invested, seminars, workshops, books, making new contacts between PR and Marketing professionals to learn their insights and maybe taking some classes at a local university.

See what I mean? that’s harder than just looking at your stats and posting a comment in some blog about your recent post.

So you’re screw?

Of course not! if you are in the same place than I’m, we have a decision to make. We need to learn more about marketing that can be applicable to our blog. One things is doing marketing and PR for emaginacion, selling services and aiming 10, 14 guys per month, and the other is aiming 40.000 billion readers, see how things changed? well, we need to pay more attention if we want this to succeed, don’t you agree?

It’s hard I know. But you’re an entrepreneur, just like me. I will start tomorrow looking for some books at the local bookstore and I will order something from amazon. That’s my list for tomorrow first half hour!

I love the game. I don’t care to lose, and believe me when I tell you I don’t really care to win; I care about the game. Being an entrepreneur; trying to make things work, trying to do something I never, never did before. That’s the game.

Fight the fight, and when you do that; you will feel what I’m feeling right now.

Good day!

I whish I had 200 visitors per day :/ Soon I will open a new blog but this time in english :) It’s rather frustrating to get 20 visitors a day and you know that so many peopl PR have you done until now that was so fundamentaly wrong that you decided to stop it? I know you posted a post at sitepoint.com that made me visit your blog. But what else?

PR stands for public relations (a promotion intended to create goodwill for a person or institution; I want to leave that clear so people don’t confuse with page rank)

Basically, my plan is what I posted on sitepoint. I just commented on other well-known blogs trying to add value to their conversations; some people came to visit CMY, some others don’t.

“Content is king”, I keep hearing that affirmation and I keep asking myself “content IS REALLY king in that sense?” of course, you will get more returning visitors and they will spread your blog through your friends, but I think evangelize is king.

Anty, I already posted what I did to promotion this blog and; it wasn’t enough. Blogs, forums, mailing lists, etc. It requires a super-human effort to attack those fronts and win in every single on of them at the same time. Maybe with five or six other mates who do the exact same thing for you it will succeed. But doing it along with other part-time mate, isn’t really going to do anything, believe me.

That’s why I think education is the only answer to our questions. Doing google SEO? that won’t work. Spending money on ADs? that won’t work either. The only thing I know it works is creating loyal users, and if you can do that; well, it will be the start of a roller coaster for your blog.

Like before, I will try the method I’m talking about and post the results AND the plan later here or at SP.

Anty, thanks for stopping by!

Just don’t get obsessed man, do your job and they will come, be happy with your 200 readers (201 now) and be gentle with them, show them you care about them and write for you (first) and for your readers.
I have like 500 visitors a day and around 300 suscribers — according to feedburner. Sometime ago I was obsessed with stats but don’t anymore. I love my readers and I write for them.
